Our English work for this term will be linked to our Geography topic, Frozen Kingdoms. We will be reading the book, Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill. We will be writing informal and formal letters, learning to use descriptive language and writing a newspaper report. We will also delve deeper into the lives of famous explorers and write diary entries and poems from their perspectives. Our guided reading sessions will support our learning about Frozen Kingdoms by allowing children to explore relevant vocabulary in a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts. We will be teaching a new spelling rule every week, children can practise this on Spelling Shed at home.
This term in maths, Year 5 and 6 will be building on their knowledge of place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and fractions. This term in Year 5 and 6 is all about consolidating previous learning, becoming more efficient in our strategies and introducing new skills such as long division.
This term we are learning about electrical circuits, their components and how they function. We will learn to recognise how the voltage of cells affects the output of a circuit. We will learn how to draw circuits using standard symbols. We will then explore programmable devices, sensors and monitoring. We will finish the topic by combining our learning to design and make programmable devices.
Our Geography title is Frozen Kingdoms. We will be learning about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles. We will delve into a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them. We will also learn about the wildlife that lives there and famous polar explorers throughout history.
