English

This term, we will explore Swing to the Moon, an exciting and imaginative topic designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. Through stories, songs, role-play, and hands-on activities, children will develop early literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills.

Pupils will work together on creative projects, and make discoveries about the world around them, building confidence and a love of learning along the way.

Maths

Reception

This term, children in Reception will cover the following topics in their mathematical learning:

  • Match, sort and compare
  • Talk about measure and patterns
  • It’s me 1,2,3
  • Circles and Triangles
  • 1,2,3,4,5
  • Shapes with 4 sides

Year 1/2

This term, children in Year 1 and Year 2 will cover the following topics in their mathematical learning:

  • Place value (within 20)
  • Addition and Subtraction (within 20)
  • Place Value (within 100)
  • Shape (2D and 3D)

Topic

Let’s Explore the World

Reception: This project encourages children to develop a curiosity for the world that they live in, including the environments that they share with others, their family, their home and their school.

Y1/2: This essential skills and knowledge project teaches children about atlases, maps and cardinal compass points. They will learn about the characteristics of the four countries of the United Kingdom and find out why there are hot, temperate and cold places around the world. They will also compare England to Somalia. The children will carry out fieldwork, collecting primary data in their locality to answer geographical questions.

Science

Spring 1: Use of Materials

We will explore different materials, their properties, and how they are used in everyday life. Through hands-on experiments, children will investigate how materials can be changed or combined, developing their observation, prediction, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way.

Spring 2: Plant Survical

We will learn how plants grow and what they need to survive, including sunlight, water, soil, and air. Through hands-on activities and simple experiments, children will explore the natural world and develop their observation and scientific skills.

Art / DT

Flower Head

This term, we will explore Flower Head, creating artwork inspired by flowers and nature. Children will experiment with colour, shape, and texture, learning to use different materials and techniques to bring their ideas to life.

Through hands-on activities, pupils will develop their creativity, observational skills, and confidence in expressing themselves through art.

Cut, Stitch and Join

This term, we will explore Cut, Stitch and Join, learning to combine fabrics and materials to create their own textile projects. Through hands-on activities, children will develop creativity, fine motor skills, and confidence in designing and making.
