This term, children in Haddon will be enjoying a range of engaging learning opportunities. Below is a snapshot of what they will be exploring.
In English, we will be enjoying reading a range of different stories and writing about the characters, setting and sequencing the events of the book.

In Maths, children will continue to build on their number and place value knowledge by learning about money, fractions, time, mass, capacity and temperature and position and direction. They will continue to use practical resources such as counters and Base 10 to help the to visualise their learning. You could practise these skills at home by playing shops or doing some baking.

History: Magnificent Monarchs
We will begin this topic by looking at pictures of palaces and royal residences across the United Kingdom and locating them on a map. Children will then learn about the lives of Henry VIII, Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II. They will learn why they are significant and why we still remember them today.

Geography: Coastlines
In this topic, children will learn to identify physical and human features of coastal landscapes. Those who have been to the sea, before will share their experiences of visiting the coast. We will learn about how to keep safe around the sea and the role of the RNLI. Children will learn about the role of tourism in coastal areas, learning specifically about the town of Whitby.

Art: Portraits and Poses
Children will look at royal portraits and will learn to analyse features of the portraits. Children will draw portraits of themselves and their friends whilst practising different poses. We will discuss how the use of portraits has changed over time and the role that technology plays.
DT: Beach Hut
In this topic, children will design and make their own beach hut using a range of different materials, including cardboard, wood and lollipop sticks. The children will learn how to make structures stronger, stiffer and more stable. They will learn how to join the different materials to make an attractive and sturdy beach hut. When they are finished they will evaluate the effectiveness of their design.
