Below you will find a short description of the exciting topics your child will be covering this term. We are following EYFS/KS1 Cycle A. You will find the topics for PE, Computing, Music and RE on our curriculum overview.

English

Our focus text for Autumn 1 is The Magic Paint Brush by Julia Donaldson.

Our focus text for Autumn 2 is Mog’s Christmas by Judith Kerr.

Maths

Reception

This term, children in Reception will cover the following topics in their mathematical learning:

  • Match, sort and compare
  • Talk about measure and patterns
  • It’s me 1,2,3
  • Circles and Triangles
  • 1,2,3,4,5
  • Shapes with 4 sides

 

Year 1/2

This term, children in Year 1 and Year 2 will cover the following topics in their mathematical learning:

  • Place value (within 20)
  • Addition and Subtraction (within 20)
  • Place Value (within 100)
  • Shape (2D and 3D)

Topic

Let’s Explore the World

Reception: This project encourages children to develop a curiosity for the world that they live in, including the environments that they share with others, their family, their home and their school.

Y1/2: This essential skills and knowledge project teaches children about atlases, maps and cardinal compass points. They will learn about the characteristics of the four countries of the United Kingdom and find out why there are hot, temperate and cold places around the world. They will also compare England to Somalia. The children will carry out fieldwork, collecting primary data in their locality to answer geographical questions.

Science

Autumn 1: Human Survival

This project teaches children about the basic needs of humans for survival, including the importance of exercise, nutrition and good hygiene. They will learn how human offspring grow and change over time into adulthood.

Autumn 2: Habitats

This project teaches children about habitats and what a habitat needs to provide. They will explore local habitats to identify and name living things and begin to understand how they depend on one another for food and shelter.

 

Art / DT

Still Life

This project teaches children about the work of significant still life artists and still life techniques. They will explore a wide variety of still lifes and learn about the use of colour and composition. They will create still life arrangements and artwork.

Remarkable Recipes

This project teaches children about sources of food and tools used for food preparation. They will also discover why some foods are cooked and learn to read a simple recipe. The children will choose and make a new school meal that fulfils specific design criteria.
